State to attend forum aimed at attracting investment in property sectors

The Irish State is to take part in a major international property conference in France next month in an effort to attract investment into residential construction.

Senior officials from the Department of Housing and the Department of Enterprise will be joined by executives from the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund, the IDA and the Irish property industry at the European Real Estate Investment Conference in Cannes.

It is a major forum for attracting investment in property sectors around the world and with 20,000 delegates.

With concerns that major funds are pulling out of the residential construction in Ireland, it will be first time the Irish State will take part in the event to woo investors.

A number of sovereign wealth funds and pension companies have signed up to attend presentations by Ireland.

It is estimated Ireland will require €18bn per annum in private investment to meet the Government’s target of building 300,000 homes over the next five years.

A spokesperson for the organisers of the Irish Real Estate Investment Pavilion, which has organised Ireland’s involvement, said the event is an opportunity for representatives to “speak directly to key decisions makers across European real estate and our participation will help attract the capital required”.
