The cost of a fry-up has risen by 3.1% in the past year, according to the Central Statistics Office.
That figure is based on the data the CSO tracks as part of its monthly consumer price index.
While the exact ingredients of a full Irish breakfast are often disputed, the CSO’s plate includes rashers, sausages, eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes.
It said the cost of these items averaged €28.03 in January – compared to €27.20 in the same month of last year.
However it notes that the prices for rashers, sausages, mushrooms and tomatoes are per kilogram – meaning they represent a family-sized fry-up.
Adding in the cost of bread, butter, tea and milk and the price rises to €38.79, it said.
Though this represents a more modest increase of 2.3% on January 2023 – in part due to a year-on-year fall in the price of bread, butter and milk.
