Trade union members working in the community sector and for Section 39 healthcare organisations are to hold a protest in Dublin today.
The demonstration is being staged to call for better pay and conditions and for greater recognition of the work being carried out by employees in the sector.
The workers involved are employed by a variety of charities, healthcare organisations and employment services.
“In many cases community sector and Section 39 organisation workers are poorly paid, have poor or no pension provision and lack security of employment,” said SIPTU Public Administration and Community Division Organiser Adrian Kane.
“This is despite these workers providing important health and social services to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable members of our society,” he added.
The trade unions SIPTU, Fórsa and the INMO have come together under the banner of ICTU to seek a collective bargaining forum with the Government to call for improvements in the terms and conditions for community sector workers.
Protestors will gather outside the Custom House in Dublin this morning and will march to Leinster House.
