The number of residential units which have commenced construction fell last month, according to the latest figures from the Department of Housing.
In September, the Department received commencement notices for 2,211 units, down 31% on the 3,203 commencements notified the same month last year.
605 units were started in Dublin local authority areas and 1,219 were in the greater Dublin area.
The Department of Housing also maintains a running 12-month measure of commencements. This stood at 27,417 in September, down 10.2% year-on-year.
These consist of 22,414 scheme units, down 11.3% year-on-year and 5,003 single home commencements, down 4.6% year-on-year.
The rolling 12-month measure of commencements has been declining since reaching a peak in March of 34,846.
